26 Days of Kawasaki Disease Awareness: Day 12

To celebrate the 4th annual National Kawasaki Disease Awareness Day on January 26, 2014, I will be posting 26 ideas on how you can spread KD awareness in your own community and beyond - one idea per day until the 26th.

Here are the past days:

Now let's get to today's idea:

Day 12: Hand out heart lollipops with KD information.

Today we are back to sweet and simple... literally! I've seen this delightful idea done by Team Kawasaki Disease - AL and The Faces of Kawasaki Disease.  The idea is easy but the message will spread quickly and effectually.  Buy some bulk heart lollipops, slap a Kawasaki Disease message on each one, and hand them out.  Done!

There are a few different ways to attach some KD information to each sucker.  You can make stickers to affix directly to the wrapper.  These will be easy to make and attach, but most likely will be thrown away.  You can print a KD message on regular card stock and secure it to the stick with string or ribbon.  This idea will take more time but there's also a better chance of your message being saved.  You can substitute the card stock with magnet sheets and now there's an even better chance your KD message will survive.

There are tons of places to buy heart suckers, the cheapest I found at the time of publication was this offer from Rakuten.com - 100 count for $21 plus $10.50 for shipping.

If you want to take this idea to the next level you can order a large supply and give them to businesses around town to pass out.  Banks, restaurants, and grocery stores would all be great places to reach a lot of people.

You can turn this idea into a fundraiser by ordering the Heart Lollipop Fundraiser from the Old Fashion Candy Company.  From their website:

"Lovely lollipop candy fundraisers! Get yours started today with the Hearts lollipop candy fundraiser. They are available in various colors and flavors and are a popular candy fundraiser that kids love! Each case contains 80 lollipops. Our case sizes are small so that you may order a variety of products for your fundraiser."
With a selling price of fifty cents per sucker, your profit comes out to $16 per case.

If the magnet idea struck your fancy, you could nix the suckers altogether and just hand out magnets.  You can buy nifty magnet sheets that run through your printer and then just cut to size.

Have you done this idea in the past? Tell us all about it! Come back tomorrow for day 13 of 26 days of Kawasaki Disease Awareness.
