26 Days of Kawasaki Disease Awareness: Day 7

To celebrate the 4th annual National Kawasaki Disease Awareness Day on January 26, 2014, I will be posting 26 ideas on how you can spread KD awareness in your own community and beyond - one idea per day until the 26th.

Here are the past days:

Now let's get to today's idea:

Day 7: Decorate your home and car windows with KD awareness.

Today's idea comes from this article written by Vanessa at The Faces of Kawasaki Disease.  A huge thank you to Vanessa, Linda, and all the KD Mommas who run this extremely dedicated page that has helped hundreds of parents and survivors over the years.

At first glance, this idea is very simple; just use special paint to decorate the windows of your home and car with facts or pictures about KD.  Hearts, website addresses, awareness ribbons... there are dozens of possibilities here, but if you do this on your car, make sure you don't obstruct your view while driving.

Once I started to research this a little, I discovered a not-so-simple part: picking your paint! It turns out there are a plethora of options for this craft including:

There are also a number of DIY options.

Many include a recipe that combines water-based paint and dish soap like this article from Aprons and Apples.  This post by The Abundant Wife has the great idea to outline with dry erase markers before filling in with your paint.  Then there were posts like this one from Parent Hacks that use window clings made by painting designs onto wax paper with fabric paint (puffy paint works as well).  These are SO cute!!

All of these great options allow you to get extremely creative with your designs, so show off your artistic ability along with your advocacy skills.  If you decide to decorate your windows, please take some pictures to share with us here or over on Facebook.  I'd love to add some pictures to this post.  And please join me tomorrow for day 8 of 26 days of Kawasaki Disease awareness.
