26 Days of Kawasaki Disease Awareness: Day 15

To celebrate the 4th annual National Kawasaki Disease Awareness Day on January 26, 2014, I will be posting 26 ideas on how you can spread KD awareness in your own community and beyond - one idea per day until the 26th.

Here are the past days:
Now let's get to today's idea:

Day 15: Organize a charity golf or mini-golf tournament for KD.

This is one of those ideas that will take a great deal or work, but the reward can be immense.  Charity golf tournaments are some of the most successful charity events held, just check out these success stories:
  1. Bogeys & Birds 2013 Charity Golf Tournament a Rousing Success! by Towne Park
  2. Trey Hardee Charity Golf Tournament for the Flatwater Foundation
  3. Cancer survivor's golf tournaments raise big bucks for charity by Contra Costa Times
  4. 25 Middle Tennessee Non-Profits Win at CCA's Charity Golf Classic by PRWeb
There is also a great deal of information available to help you plan your golf tournament - whole books have been written on the subject! Here are just a few examples:
  1. How to Organize a Golf Tournament by Golf Registrations
  2. How to Organize Successful Charity Golf Tournaments by Pat Cash
  3. 18 Charity Golf Outing Success Tips from The Whiner's Gold Club

Considering that Kawasaki Disease affects primarily children, a miniature gold tournament may be more appropriate.  It would also be less of a commitment and easier to organize.  There are also many sites offering great advice for organizing your own mini golf tournament.  Here are a few:
  1. How to organize a Mini Golf event from Multiple Sclerosis Association of America
  2. Charity Mini Golf Tournament by DoJiggy
  3. Mini Golf Tournament Profit Tips by Myrtle Beach Family Golf
  4. Miniature Golf Is An Easy Fundraising Idea by Conquer Chiari
  5. Planning A Golf Tournament Fundraiser - Miniature Golf Fun by Premier Amusement Developers
And here are some miniature golf charity tournament success stories:
  1. KLB Miniature Golf Tournament by Keep Lewisville Beautiful
  2. Putting for dollars: Soroptimists host annualmini-golf tournament fundraiser by Revalli Republic
  3. Mini-Golf Fundraiser a Success! by Milford Education Foundation
  4. Michael Moriarty Scholarship Tournament– Huge Success Over $12,000 Raised! By Mulligan’s Miniature Golf

Unfortunately, I don't have any Kawasaki Disease specific examples to share with you today.  Have you ever heard of a golf or mini golf tournament for KD? Do you think this is something you could see yourself doing? Please share! And come back tomorrow for day 16 of 26 days of Kawasaki Disease Awareness.
